Preparation of AVITOP

Stirring

  1. Put the necessary amount of AVITOP into a vessel.
  2. Smooth back remaining AVITOP in the original packaging and properly close the lid.
  3. First, stir AVITOP without adding water until you get the consistency of thick „cream" using a spatula, trowel or drill stirrer at low rotation speed. Then add the recommended amount of water depending on the method of application (see below) and stir slowly again. AVOID crushing glass micro balls when using drill stirrer at high rotation speed; it could impair the insulation characteristics of AVITOP.

Colour tinting

For better covering of white colour, we recommend adding 5% of high quality interior paint to AVITOP and stir slowly. You can add tinting interior colour of any tone to AVITOP.

Dilution

  1. For backfilling, add approx. 5% of water to AVITOP (approx. 50cl to 1l of AVITOP). Depending on the absorbency of the surface and your experience, you can carefully change the viscosity of AVITOP for easier application.
  2. For application with painting roller, we recommend adding and stirring of up to 25% of water in steps (250cl to 1l of AVITOP). Depending on the absorbency of the surface and your experience, you can carefully change the viscosity of AVITOP for easier application.

Storage of prepared material

  1. Smooth the prepared and unused AVITOP, carefully close the lid and store at a cold but not freezing place. However, you should use it as soon as you can.
    Repeated stirring
  2. Prior to stirring unused and stored AVITOP, we recommend you to pierce and remove the dry material from the bucket and pour the settled water into another vessel.
  3. Stir the stored AVITOP without water by a spatula, trowel or drill stirrer at low rotation speed. AVOID crushing glass micro balls when using drill stirrer at high rotation speed; it could impair the insulation characteristics of AVITOP.
  4. Gradually add water in the amount depending on the application method (see above) and continue slow stirring. If AVITOP has been stored for a longer period of time, we recommend using fresh water.

Recommendations prior to application

  1. Carefully cover the floor and adjacent furnishing prior to the preparation of the underlay. Thus you save yourself unnecessary cleaning work.
  2. Lime paint and clay paint layers must always be properly removed (depending on the preparation of the underlay). If you do not remove such layers, you reduce the lifetime of the entire system due to risk of falling off.
  3. Dampen the older lime/clay paint layers prior to scraping them. If there are multiple layers, continue damping and removing them until you reach the solid wall material.
  4. You can wash AVITOP from your hands by tepid water. Used tools can be cleaned in the same way.

The application must not be carried out in temperatures under 5°C.
The optimal temperature for the application and hardening of AVITOP is approx. 20°C.
All components of AVITOP are lighter than water; therefore you must continuously stir the material during work.

A little more advice

By careful preparation of the underlay you achieve the maximum adhesion and lifetime of the AVITOP layer.
By underpainting vari coloured or dark surfaces you avoid redundant costs of colour finishing of the AVITOP surface.

Preparation of underlay

 of lime/cement plaster

  1. Remove loose plaster by stabbing or scraping down to solid surface.
  2. Remove lime/clay layers down to solid surface.
  3. Level uneven surface using lime/gypsum plaster - BE CAREFUL: lime plaster needs at least a fortnight to mature.
  4. Apply Baselayer penetration coating - Dilute in water in 1:10 ratio and apply 1 or 2 layers depending on absorbency of the underlay.

Concrete

  1. Remove loose concrete (in case of old concrete).
  2. Remove stripping agent (in case of new concrete).
  3. Apply Baselayer penetration coating - Dilute in water in 1:10 ratio and apply 1 or 2 layers depending on absorbency of the underlay.

Plasterboard, cetris, OSB boards

  1. Apply recommended treatment to joints.
  2. Apply Baselayer penetration coating - Dilute in water in 1:10 ratio and apply 1 or 2 layers depending on absorbency of the underlay.
  3. We recommend underpainting a layer of dispersed paint (optimally white) for better covering.

Wood

  1. Cleanse the surface, grind off soppy wood if needed.
  2. Apply protective solvents if needed.
  3. Apply Baselayer penetration coating - Dilute in water in 1:10 ratio and apply 1 or 2 layers depending on absorbency of the underlay.

Metal structures, sheet metal etc.

  1. Cleanse the surface, grind off loose paint and rust.
  2. Apply suitable anti rust or degreasing agent.
  3. Apply base paint (ALWAYS).
  4. Apply Baselayer penetration coating - Dilute in water in 1:10 ratio and apply 1 or 2 layers depending on absorbency of the underlay.

Glass, tiles, polished stone and other non absorbent materials

  1. Properly cleanse and degrease the surface.
  2. Apply Baselayer penetration coating - Dilute in water in 1:10 ratio and apply 1 or 2 layers depending on absorbency of the underlay.

Backfilling of AVITOP

Backfilling is a suitable method for perfectly flat surfaces such as plasterboard or other large tabular materials. Plaster needs to be checked with a lath and levelled using cement.

Application with a finishing trowel, consumption control

  1. Use a stainless steel finishing trowel with 4mm teeth. If no penetration coating has been applied to the surface, application of AVITOP will be difficult. Save yourself this unnecessary effort and observe the working procedure for the preparation of the underlay.
  2. To apply necessary amount of AVITOP onto the wall, hold the toothed edge of the finishing trowel in 45° angle. Thus you can precisely control consumption of AVITOP. If you did not observe the instructions when stirring AVITOP, cast aside the finishing trowel and stir it properly.
  3. Rub and smooth the applied AVITOP using the straight edge of the finishing trowel. Work fast and do not return to previous spots needlessly. Possible small burrs can be smoothed the next day. Recommended thickness of the AVITOP layer is 0.8 – 1 mm!!!

Smoothing of the surface, perfectly flat surface

  1. Smoothing can be carried out after AVITOP has hardened; wait at least to the next day (observe the temperature of min. 20°C and ventilate the air moist at a high flow rate). Always start at a spot that will be hidden if AVITOP has not matured yet. Firstly try all operations so as not to damage your previous work.
  2. Use a finishing trowel with Ruben, wet it n clean water and gradually smooth the traces left after applying the material by circular strokes.
  3. Check the quality of the surface and smooth any defects once again. If there are any traces or other burrs after smoothing, repair them with AVITOP and smooth them the next day.

Carefully apply the penetration coating to the surface to prolong the time of workability of AVITOP. If AVITOP starts to tear during smoothing by the finishing trowel, cleanse and wet the trowel or sprinkle some water on the applied material. Prior to smoothing, make sure that AVITOP has hardened properly. In low temperatures and high values of humidity, hardening takes a longer amount of time. Fine cracks on the wall can be covered up by unwatered AVITOP applied using a spattle.

Application of AVITOP using painting roller

Application with a painting roller is suitable for flat or undulating surfaces. In case of larger unevenness, use a smaller roller that will follow the surface better; thus you achieve more homogeneous structure.

Application using rollers of various structures

  1. Use the orange FLOCK moltopren painting roller (for lacquering). Foam rollers are too smooth and they slip along the wall. If you did not observe the instructions when stirring AVITOP, cast aside the roller and make it right.
  2. To achieve the necessary 0.5mm layer, 2 or 3 layers need to be applied. The time interval between the applications of individual layers must be at least 6 hours. In case of low temperature or poorly ventilated room, this interval must be longer.
  3. Always try the application on a hidden spot to make sure that the underlay or previous layer has hardened sufficiently. If not, it will roll upon the painting roller. Make sure that you observed the instructions for preparation of the underlay.
  4. The first and second layer needs to be applied using a painting roller by fast strokes and small force to achieve the smoothest surface possible. The last layer can be treated depending on what structure you want to get. Always try the application on a hidden spot.
  5. If you want to achieve even finer structure and smoother surface, you can smooth the surface using a Ruben finishing trowel after the last layer has hardened.

You can determine the necessary number of layers based on the consumption after applying the first layer. For a 0.5mm layer, you will consume approx. 0.5l of AVITOP per 1m2. Firstly treat corners and other details using a smaller roller and continue by application on the free surface by a large roller. Badly accessible spots are critical in terms of formation of fungi. Use your finger in fissures. AVITOP is not harmful to health. Fine cracks can be covered by unwatered AVITOP using a spattle. Using a moltopren roller, you can achieve a number of various structures. Try slow and fast strokes, heavy or light force, rolling damp or slightly hardened AVITOP etc. The combination of structures and colours can conveniently finish your interior.

Air jet application

Application using an air jet is suitable for all surfaces treated by Baselayer penetration coating.

Advantages of air jet application

  1. More homogeneous application over the entire surface of the wall including badly accessible spots (behind space heaters, in corners). Applied material is not compacted as by backfilling or rolling; it is airy and therefore provides better insulation of heat bridges.
  2. Lower consumption of the material per 1m2 thanks to air jet application.
  3. Faster application: all three layers necessary for the sufficient thickness of 0.8 – 1mm can be applied within a single day. Previous penetration coating is necessary.

If you decide to use this application method, our company will carry out the air jet application for you as soon as possible.

Tips and tricks

The application cannot be carried out using a conventional air brush since we would have to dilute AVITOP too much to run down to the jet. This would result in sagging from the wall. Therefore we use a special pump, which delivers the material in necessary concentration to the jet so that we are able to carry out the application. We work with pressure up to 5 bars; higher pressure would result in partial cracking of glass micro balls, which would impair the quality of the applied layer.

For the application, we divide the room using a plastic film into the working area and habitable area. Thus we prevent the applied material from dusting to the inhabited areas of your apartment or house.
